Zooibot | 2019

The little robot arm that could.

Zooibot (short for “zooid-robot”) is a simple, hackable robot arm designed for students to learn electronics. Zooibot was designed for the Intentional Interactions module for the Global Innovation Design Masters program at the Royal College of Art and Imperial College London. We designed and made 50 kits for students of the program to assemble and hack.

Zooids are the individual animals which make up colonial organisms such as corals and siphonophores. Like the animals it is named after, the zooibots are designed to be tiled and linked, creating the possibility of complex interactions from fairly simple units.

To view the Zooibots in action, visit Intentional Interactions on instagram and vimeo.

Intentional Interactions won the 2021 Core77 Design Education Initiative Award.
