thermally Active Panel

This is a prototype for a wall panel made of our own bimaterial laminate. Thermal bimaterials are composites that bend when exposed to heat due to differences in stiffness and rates of thermal expansion. In addition to these material properties, geometry also plays a major role in determining the bending behaviour of bimaterials.

We made this panel while developing our Re:Flex composite to explore ways to incorporate thermally-active materials into everyday objects.
